Vintage Snow Flurries in Oregon

Late February, I went back home to Oregon, to visit my family, since we had missed spending time there at Christmas; due to heavy weather - - well, the heavy weather came back again and again.. ! It really pounded Portland, making it a literal Winter Wonderland,

Vintage Exploration in Portland.

While staying with my mom at her retirement residence, The Terwilliger Plaza (and I mean this place feels like a resort!) Terwilliger Plaza is a retirement community up in the Southwest hills of Portland, that is a vibrant place to live, with a fully-stocked library (even housing some resident authors), a wonderful in house restaurant with a talented chef, and lots of interesting people who inhabit the place. I have met almost all of the residents on my mother’s floor 7 - - and they all tell me ‘this is the wildest’ floor. Just hope I can take that 7th floor spirit back to my vintage camera trade in San Francisco! ;-)

No matter where I go, whether it be Nampa, Idaho, or the Atlanta 5 Points, in this case, the SW hills of Portland, I usually run into a vintage hook up. At the Thrift shop at Terwilliger, located on floor 2 called ‘Treasures’, I discovered a group of hardworking women, who sold me a bunch of first generation digital point and shoots. Which is great because some younger folks have created a demand for these. It’s these kind of thrifting ladies and places that really fuel my passion for creating a small business and seem to make the world a smaller more manageable place.

So every time I come up to visit family in the Pacific Northwest, I take full advantage of Portland’s plentiful vintage and photo retail shops that are thriving. This time I stopped at Blue Moon Camera , in nearby St. John’s, before we got snowed in. I had a great conversation with this Blue Moon gal, about the Super-8 movie making scene in Portland. I came out of the shop with a whole fresh batch of Super-8 film to stock my pop-up and supply aspiring analog film makers with.
