Thriftin in the Mission: January Highlights
Going thrift shopping is a big part of creating my vintage camera popups. I like going to the Mission because the vintage scene is vibrant there, and I share a lot in common with the small business owners. I learn a lot from these vintage sellers, and love seeing what they come up with their vintage wares. It also turns out the Mission is an interesting place to test out used cameras and film stocks for my used camera inventory.
Over the holidays, I’d picked up this nifty-thrifty Toyota Signature watch in this downtown Portland Goodwill Boutique, while visiting my family. It was in great shape, and I was kind of stoked to wear this time piece that was probably once a new car purchase schwag, but it did need a battery and some adjustment on the band. Latin Jewelers did a great job of meeting my time piece needs.
I always like to hit Born Again Thrift on Mission street. The people there are really cool and I always find a good piece for my wardrobe. This time I found a pair of Levi 505 vintage blue jeans. I’ll need to hem ‘em in.. but that will start my sewing projects for 2024! 🧵🪡
Back in San Francisco, my wife gave me her used Samsung EX1 digital camera, which is in great shape. I tested it out in the streets of the Mission, and discovered that this camera is a hidden gem, in the point and shoot category, and would make a great compact travel camera.
I always like to hit the various comic book stores in the hood, so many to choose from, this time I hit up the Mission: Comics and Art store, for a little vintage X-Men comic book reading.
