Route 66 Argus Super 75 Vintage Finds story
Recently, I produced a little photo zine, which is one of my favorite things to do, to express my passion for analog photography. Really, you can make a zine about anything. It’s just this art form you can use all kinds of ways to create a ‘little magazine of your tastes’. I like to use collage, sketching, iconic messaging, and page design to lay out little aspects of the vintage camera product line I’ve created, or to share some of the photos the cameras I’ve found, take.
In this last edition, I featured some new surplus bags I had produced just for this vintage pop up, I’ve been doing at the nearby Farmers Markets. And I added a beautiful Argus Super 75 vintage camera complete set in the pages of my zine.
My buddy, who’s the primary reader of my zine, saw this page, and said, ‘I gotta have this camera!’. He really liked the cool design and look of antiquity of the vintage camera and also, his name is Algis - which the camera name of Argus is kinda similar. In Japan, they call him Ar-gus.. and since he travels to Japan often, it all kind of works.
I told him what this kit includes: some accessories, like the original bag, flash (which he would need put together.. easy enough..), vintage manual, and a roll of old film.
A little bit about the camera: I picked it up on a trip me and my former partner 's drive across country so she could attend Duke University. We drove in her Mercedes along Route 66 from San Francsico. And made all kinds of cool stops along the way.
I picked up this Argus Super 75 at this really cool antique shop in the 5 points area of Atlanta. My partner said, 'you gotta have this'. I put it proudly in my study, in our house in Durham, NC, and enjoyed it for many years.
So now, my friend, Algis, owns his brand ‘new’ Argus Super 75, and I’ve heard it’s found a home somewhere cool in his study in Denver.
