Building The Vintage Boutique Experience
Getting it started
Over this last few years, we’ve been popping up at many of the Vintage themed events sponsored by the Sunset Mercantile. And that’s given me the unique opportunity of becoming apart of the Vintage scene, here in the Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco.
I’ve also had a lot of fun collaborating with my friends and family, who took the jump into selling their own unique vintage wares. A great way for my sister-in-law to sell many of her unworn retail items, many with the tags still on. Plenty of thrifting for she and her daughter. Those who thrift together, stay together..
In August, Verve35mm popped up at the Inner Sunset Flea Market, and were joined by the 6th Degree, who’s a prolific KXSF DJ and Regional manager at Serendipity Wines in San Francsico. Brian, that’s his actual name, was a perfect addition to my analog boutique, since it works out he’s my vinyl counter part.
He also featured some of his own classic wardrobe pieces, and just a gaggle of 1980’s Japanese toys. There were some great conversations, he had with toy fanatics; I was smiling all afternoon to witness this.
As for what I bring to the vintage table, I’ve taken my entire 35mm film camera collection, which is pretty extensive, and created a specially curated product line of vintage cameras, lenses, photo zines, Super-8 film cameras & gear bags.
I’ve been having a ball gathering up these cameras, and going out into the community to hit lots of estate sales, antiques shops, vintage stores, and even online global vendors, like from Etsy, to discover products and create the brand. There’s just so many stories there to tell, of all of the interesting people I’ve come across, and that what makes the Vintage Finds business exciting for me. The people..
So all of these vintage sales as a pop up, has got me really excited for what the future holds. I’m currently in early business talks with some partners about setting up a new Vintage & Antique Collective in a nearby neighborhood. More on that as it develops.
Until then, happy thrifting this month, hope you find your own unique treasure & adventure
