The Magic of Collecting Super 8 Movie Projectors

Eumig 610 D Super 8 Movie Projector

One of the things I like best about being in the Vintage World, is the access I have to rare vintage items like this Eumig Super 610 D 8 movie projector. And I get these things from all sorts of places, ranging from garage sales, estate sales, Facebook Marketplace, Etsy, trips back to my home in Oregon, and even on Nextdoor. I got this Eumig Super 8 movie projector 📽️ in pristine condition from a guy on Nextdoor who had been taking care of an elderly neighbor, until she passed.. so in deed, sometimes the backstory is moving and a sense of community really comes with these kinds of deals.

Fulfilling a Childhood Dream

Going back to 1977, when I was a kid of just 10 years old, seeing Star Wars IV: A New Hope, in the theaters at such a young and impressionable age, really ignited me and my friends into loving Star Wars. We really couldn’t get enough of this film! And with VHS home video several years off, I always wanted to be able to ‘take Star Wars home’ with me, and be able to watch it anytime I liked. In the back of Marvel comics, which I read like mad, Ken Films advertised that you could buy a 400’ Star Wars Super 8 movie reel, but you had to own a Super 8 movie projector. Not being able to afford a projector on my allowance, I wouldn’t watch Star Wars at home until we rented a VHS videotape in 1983, but at least we could watch it. So finally, all these years later, as I begun collecting Super 8 movie cameras, film, an even projectors for my Franks Vintage Camera popups in the Outer Sunset, I treated myself to a Star Wars Super 8 movie reel (purchased on eBay). Watching this film at home now with a Super 8 projector 📽️, has fulfilled my childhood dreams of personal adventure, and what the future could be like..
